Hi all,

another eventful week in 1G is coming to an end, I can’t believe how fast time is flying!

We are at the end of our first PYP unit and will do the summative assessment next week. The students will create a poster about a weather forecast and present it in front of the class. They will also make a graph within that poster to assess their graphing skills.

Our next PYP unit will be about maps and globes as well as landforms and the central idea is “Our world consists of unique landscapes and cultural values”. We will work on the continents and major oceans, as well as landforms and where we live. We will also practice our own address but please make sure to practice it with your child at home as well. In Math, we will learn about 2D and 3D shapes, which will be integrated when we talk about maps and globes as well.

Please be aware that we will have our first homework assignment this Friday on Mobymax. Check the blog under the homework tab on Friday to find the homework for this week.

Have a great rest of the week,

Frau McCoy

Hi all,        Bildergebnis für weather clipart

we learned so much about the weather and weather instruments this week! We talked about the thermometer, the wind vane, and the rain gauge with focus on the thermometer and how to read it. Next week, we will focus on the rain gauge and wind vane and even make our own to measure rain fall and wind. We will continue recording the weather and will also record the temperature, rain fall, and wind. We will look at other places in the world and how the weather is there as well as compare with the weather here. We will look at extreme weather events (tornado, hail, snow storms, etc.) and talk about what we do in these events.

In Math, we have tied in our graphing unit with the PYP. We record the weather on graphs and read them. We also created different graphs about our class (our hobbies, favorite foods, etc.) and learned why graphs are made and how they are to be read. We are also still counting to 120 and are doing number recognition with a 100 chart. We will do graphs next week on worksheets and will create a fun M&M’s graph!

In German Language Arts, we will focus on the letter L,l.

Have a great rest of the week!

Hi all,

another exciting week in 1G comes to an end. We had so much fun and are moving through our first PYP unit rapidly. We are still talking about the weather and about measuring weather. We are graphing the weather and temperature each morning and are talking about why it is important to record the weather. We look at different places in the world and how the weather is there and are talking about why it is not the same everywhere. We also learn about different weather measuring instruments and which are used to measure what.

Im Math, we are talking about graphs. We relate it to our PYP unit when we graph the weather and look at different weather in different seasons. We are also doing a class graph booklet where we record our favorite foods and hobbies etc. We also are still counting to 120 by ones, twos, fives, and tens and are working on number recognition.

In German Language Arts we are going to work on the letter A,a next week as well as the alphabet as a whole.

Please check out the general First Grade blog for school-wide and community-wide information.

Have a great weekend,

Frau McCoy

Hello all 1G parents,

I hope everyone had a great first full week of school! We had so much fun in class and already are deep into our first PYP unit about the weather. We are talking about weather changes and how it affects us and the earth in general. We are also learning a lot about weather measurement instruments like the thermometer, the rain gauge, and the wind vane. Next week, we will start our weather journal where we write and draw about the weather daily and compare it throughout time. We will continue to talk about the seasons and the weather changes happening with them.

In Math, we are counting and doing number recognition as well as number dictation. We will start with graphs and data next week.

In German Language Arts, we learned about the letter M,m this week. We read, learned vocabulary, and wrote sentences as well as traced the letters. We will have one letter/sound per week in German that we are focusing on.

Please join me for Curriculum Night next Tuesday, August 13th 5-6pm. We will discuss everything about the 1st Grade curriculum, as well as school policies and what the year will look like.

Have a great weekend,

Hi all,
I know you have been anxiously waiting for that first email from me and here it is! Welcome to 1st Grade German where we will learn sooo much this year! I am so excited at how well these first two days of school have been going!
I handle communication as follows: I write a weekly email (usually goes out on Friday) and also post on my Blog about all relevant updates. Please also make sure to visit the 1st Grade Blog weekly as it contains all relevant information concerning 1st Grade and the whole school. You can access both Blogs via this link: https://icsatlanta1stgrade.edublogs.org
I know lots of you did not get an agenda yet. Administration assured us that more are on the way and you will be notified when they are available for purchase so hang tight. In the agenda, there will be your child’s color for the day from English and German class as well as other important communication so make sure to check it daily.
We are diving right into our first PYP unit next week which is all about weather and graphing!
Have a great weekend,
